Having moved to The Lake District in April 2023, i’m expecting this page to get regular updates…
Mid May.
February 2022
The dawn light briefly illuminated the Buachaille peak with a soft pink light, but i prefer the moody B&W version.
So pleased to have planned to get to Kilchurn Castle for sunrise, as the light completely transformed the scene, Blessed with calm, glassy water reflections too. You make you’re own luck.
I love the simplicity of this scene, it has an oriental feel to me.
With the Ben Nevis range hidden by the clouds in the background.
On the hills in Glen Etive.
Rain, snow, hail - we had it all.
March 2020 - 5 days on these rugged islands in the North Atlantic, unpredictable weather meant we could only photograph some of those days, but it is truly an amazing landscape location. We will definitely be going back.
Beautiful view of the iconic lake above the sea on the Isle of Vagar. Long exposure, HDR image taken from the very peak of the overlooking cliff. I feel the need to say that it is a scary location, especially on this cold icy day in March - a slip could easily result in a fatal fall.
This waterfall is one of the most iconic in all of the Faroe Islands, with an impressive 60m drop into the Atlantic Ocean. This shot is a superwide stitched panorama made from 6 images.
It was a horrid day, hardly stopped raining - but sometimes you have to make the best of the conditions you have.
Stitched panorama made from 6 portrait images, standing as close to the edge as I dared in the windy, icy conditions.
View of the coast road, on the way back from Kalsoy lighthouse in the snow.
Very inquisitive sheep on Kalsoy.
Rainy day on Vagar.
Long weekend trip to Provence July 2019, the excuse was Liana’s Birthday, but we all know it was really to get these photographs.
Beautiful sunset near Valensole, Provence.
Lone Tree in Provence, July 2019.
The derelict barn that I had hoped to photograph this morning had farm vehicle parked next to it, luckily I managed to find this location nearby.
Storm chasing adventure in June 2019.
This is a stitched panorama of a massive Supercell near Hobbs, New Mexico on the first day of our Storm Chasing adventure. It made the 8 hour drive from Oklahoma City worthwhile.
The turquoise / green in the centre of the cell indicates ice formations being lit up by the cloud to cloud lightning.
A massive lightning storm erupted near Dexter, New Mexico.
A break in the clouds, produced this strong band of colour in an otherwise grey sky.
For 5 minutes at sunset, the sun lit the clouds beautifully.
Composite image of 4 long exposures. I got eaten alive by Mosquitos too. But worth it.
After a long day chasing this storm, it touched down briefly at a distance, but managed to get this shot with a long lens.
Fabulous five days in the Outer Hebrides in April 2019.
Looking towards the imposing Abheinn Leinish.
Delightful evening light once again at Luskentyre.
Natural archway on the rugged west coast of Lewis.
A derelict building being backlit on Lewis, with interesting distant recessions.
Long exposure at dawn from Seilebost beach looking towards Luskentyre.
Beautiful April Sunset
Blue hour, between Seilebost and Luskentyre.
Sunset on Harris.
There can be only one.
Beautiful evening. Amazed at the beauty of Harris.
Sunset on the beach.
No photo journey to the Outer Hebrides would be complete without these.
Long Weekend of photography early Spring 2019.
This long exposure simplifies the composition, hopefully giving a pleasing calm look.
Overcast dawn shoot. 30s Exposure showing some movement in the water.
Portugal trips in 2018 and 2019 has been very interesting
A little earlier, colours are a little richer and the angle is a little more dynamic i think.
Dawn in May 2019.
16mm 1.0s exposure to keep some pleasing interest in the sea. The turquoise colours really started showing through at sunset. Spent ages in different locations with a variety of exposure lengths. Wonderfull way to spend a few hours at sunset.
30s exposure at f9 using the Big Stopper and a hard grad on the horizon. I’m really enjoying the simplifying effect of the long exposures at the moment. Unusually for me, there is a man made element of the building in the top right, but I think its works ok.
20mm f4.5. Health and Safety would never have allowed this shot in the UK. I took my life in my own hands to get into position for this shot.
28mm for 30s. I really like the drama in the sea and sky and the blue tones against the orangey brown rocks.
After the sun has peeked over the horizon, long exposures take on an unusual blue tone. Quite distinctive.
Long Weekend Spring 2018. We love this City.
October 2017. A week of photography - great time despite the constant rain.
2.5s exposure as the sunset light gently caressed the underside of the clouds.
36s exposure from 500px bridge in the localised rain. A lovely rainbow developed later and i captured a few images, but they don’t feel quite right for me in this location.
1.6s Exposure to get some water movement, looking towards Uttakliev.
63s exposure the give a serene feeling to the otherwise fairly poor choppy sea.
The beautiful and harsh landscapes of Iceland. Can't wait to go back for another visit.
Long exposure panorama giving an eery blue cast.
Stormy day.
Lovely, chilly sunset.
Remarkable location.
Hiking to the top, in the dark, to get the sunrise shot was a lot tougher than we expected.
So many beautiful vantage points at this epic landscape location.
